Homeless Is Not Hopeless

Homelessness did not become a crisis overnight and the crisis will not go away overnight. The solution to end homelessness is a holistic approach to overcome the challenges of daily life. We as a community have developed and adopted a ten year plan that will aid individuals and families who choose to end homelessness and break unhealthy cycles of addiction and poverty. This is not a government bailout quick fix program , but a strategic and valued partnership between government, business, nonprofit and the community-at-large. Super Bowl Party and You Are Invited

That’s right, the largest Super Bowl Party in Palm Beach County. Sunday February 5th, 5:00PM

This Super Bowl party is being provided to the homeless men and women who live in the streets, under bridges and in the woods. The people who do not have the large screen HDTVs and LazyBoy recliners to sit back and watch the Biggest sporting event on the planet. This Super Bowl party will be more than about finger foods and hot appetizers , the homeless will get free haircuts, health assessment, clothing and personal care products. They will also get to stuff themselves with the best home-cooked BBQ Dinner with all the fix-ins.

You are invited, BUT bring plenty of gently worn clothing, non-perishable foods and canned goods. Don’t come empty-handed or without a heart to serve the less fortunate in our community. If you know where there are homeless people living BRING THEM.

Where: Chapel by the Lake (Across from First Baptist West Palm Beach)

Event Opens: 5:00PM

Dinner Served: 6:00PM

MLK Service Day

Monday (1-16-12) was a day on not a day off for 109 volunteers who came to the Homeless Resource Center to plant the Serenity Garden. In addition, volunteers picked up litter throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Many neighbors were out and positive comments were received. This service day was coordinated by our AmeriCorps VISTA staff and they did a wonderful job. Chuck Weber from Channel 12 spent over an hour enjoying himself and interviewing the volunteers. Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness in Palm Beach County

There is not enough money, shelter, food or social services to handle the needs, BUT it does not mean that there are not steps being taken to address this social issue. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Nutrition Assistance Program provides children and people with low incomes access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education. They offer a number of programs, such as:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also called food stamps,
school meal programs, and
Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which provides assistance to pregnant and postpartum women, and their children.
